Foster the City is a coalition of churches providing homes for children in foster care. Since 2018, FTC has scaled across multiple regions and wanted an app to smooth out their process to continue to grow.
Fostering children is an important part of giving them the best chance of succeeding in life. It provides them with stability and security, which is essential for children to feel supported and thrive in the world. It also allows them to learn from different role models and experience different environments that they may not have had access to before.
Fostering children also helps to break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage. It gives them a chance to be surrounded by a supportive environment and build a better future for themselves and their family. It also gives them the opportunity to gain vital skills and learn important lessons that can help them build a better life for themselves and their children.
Foster the City aims to bring God’s love into the world of fostering by creating support groups around families within the same church, so that each child has a chance to experience the love of God.
We kickstarted the project with a 2-Day in-person design sprint with the Foster the City team. We conducted expert interviews, defined the long term goal and sprint questions, and generated initial solutions as a team. Working together in-person allowed us to rapidly understand the user flow and needs.
In our next iteration, our client wanted to explore a watch app. So we pivoted and adapted the wireframes to make a more holistic experience. Rather than burning time on writing a robust API we decided to use Sheety to create an API that cycles through 81 possible permutations that tie to a Soul Score. This empowered us to explore other visual experiences.
We are currently finishing this project, stay tuned! Here is a sneak peek of what we are working on.
